Hi there! Hein posted this reply on my question, which was basically the same as yours:
For KL, you can safely book these hostels:
Red Palm
Green Hut Lodge
Number 8
I've been to the first two to meet some TP members staying there, and only good comments so far. All of them are on the same road (less than 200m apart).
I have looked them up and red palm does look great!
hi MishMish,

StayOrange sounds too good to be true! It LOOKS amazing, and relatively cheap...

Its located on the Petaling Street itself. I pass by it few times. From the outside, looks really fine!!! Well, its convinient since lots of public transport. But dont take taxi without meter(A LOT!) there.

MishMish,
I've passed by the place and it looked good but I did not step into the venue though. True, in the website it looks good, just like Tune Hotels by Air Asia.

Dakie,
I think you should try calling them and inquire about advance booking. Previously when I went to Philippines, they (the backpackers inn which I stayed) did not offer advanced booking as well but I called them up and emailed them to get my bookings done. They should be lenient enough to do what you want because it's business for them. And stayOrange is located in Petaling Street itself, just one or two shoplots beside McDonald's and it's orange it colour so you won't miss it anyway.
Do you mean the efficient way to go around Kuala Lumpur?!
If you meant that, Petaling Street is very near to Pasar Seni LRT line, just a stone's throw away, so I believe you can move around efficiently. However, do not take any cabs there and always ask for a taxi with a meter, those people can be bloody cut throats, seriously.
