I am looking for a 10 - 13 day hike starting in switzerland, maybe leading me up to the Matterhorn. I want to pass through small villages does anyone know any good routes? possibly any day to day itineraries. Thanks for the help.

Hi Justin,

It has been a while since I went on a multiple-day hike. So I can not really give ou advise on a route.

But there are several regions which you could use as a base camp and do trips from there. For example:

-Wallis/Valais (Matterhorn is also there, but I would not consider the Matterhorn as a hike, I would call it serious climbing)
- Berner Oberland (Interlaken), which has many nice valleys and mountains
- Tessin / Ticino for a more mediterean feeling

Another good are the SAC-huts (small, simple, houses in the mountains in which you can spend the night in a dormitory for a small cover charge, sometimes unguarded, often self-catering) (only in German and French)

Otherwise I'm sure that you can find a guidebook for hiking in Switzerland, unfortunately I can not give ou advise on that.

Interlaken was great - lots and lots of hiking, since the city is between two mountains.
