Hi all, a relatively recent article in the International Herald Tribune

Which of these places do you agree/disagree with, and which places do you think should have made it to the list?

I am a little disagree with Bogota. Its Dangerous. Even the Argentina Football Team withdrew from the Copa America in Colombia few years back due to safety reason. I think Hokkaido should be there instead of Bogota.

I think Bogota is one of the more interesting suggestions. I can't believe Courchevel is in the top 10. It's a pretty good ski resort, but not an interesting travel destination. The list is completely schizophrenic. Some are luxury beach holiday things, and some are interesting travelling things.

I'm pleased to say there's only four places on that list that I have visited (Oslo, San Francisco and London) or will be visiting in the foreseeable future (Easter Island).
I don't know what criteria they used to select places for this list, but with remarks such as "all for as little as £35,250 a week", "high fashion, cutting-edge cuisine and cushy living", "weekly rates starting at $12,500", "has long been popular with German celebrities, particularly television stars and sports figures", etc - I'm pretty certain the crowd going to these places is not the crowd I particularly desire to mingle with.

I am surprised to find Libya in the top 10 and even more surprised not to find any Indian city in the Top53!!!!

I know I was pretty progressive person...the top 3 has been visited yeaaaaaaaaaaars ago

Miami beaches and Courchevel in the top 10.....whahahaha, this is definitely not ment for real travellers that are interested in...well...travelling of course, instead of staying a week or so in the same place going up and down a mountain or showing their muscles and g-strings on a beach..pathetic. Same applies to places like Anguilla, Puerto Plata, Malaga, San Diego, Itacaré, Virgin Gorda, Maldives, Verbier, Lombok, Playa Blanca, Mazatlan, St Lucia, Rimini (!!??), Roatan, Hvar, Puerto Vallarta. So about 20 (!) places can be deleted from this list at least. Some others like London and Las Vegas are so blassé. And Barossa Valley in Australia? Give me just the wine, that's enough. If you want to visit really special wineries, go to Lebanon or Georgia which is a lot more 2008!

Tuscany, Liverpool.....I am not 78 yet

Libyia, Algeria and Death Valley on the other hand should be very nice (never been there) and as a desert enthusiast I would like to visit them...but not next year Glad I have visited Namibia years ago as well, although hopefully it will stay rather low profile unlike South Africa.

Agree with places like Kuwait and Iran as well.

Here are some possible ideas for the more adventurous travellers who would like to see more than a city, beach or ski resort and like nature more than culture:

Visit the Gorillas in Congo
Go across the border in northwestern Somalia from Eritrea or Ethiopia
Be a pioneer in the new Sierra Leone
Visit Bhutan before everyone has a tv over there
Try to get on a freighter to Pitcairn
Tristan da Cunha
Manuel Kempff NP in Bolivia
Canning Stock Route by 4x4
Dog sledding in Greenland..in january of course

Well, have a nice 2008
