I am heading to Mexico City in a few weeks and need to find a hostel to crash in. I am looking for a fun place with plenty of other young travellers (I will be alone so company is appreciated). Condesa sounds like a cool neighborhood but I'm open to anything. I'll be doing this on the cheap so close to the sites (museums, zocalo, etc) or at least public transportation would be great. Please let me know if you've got a favorite spot! Also, if there are any don't miss sites, restaurants, etc please tell me. Gracias!

Hey Katy,

Condesa is a nice and interesting area indeed, with lots of bars, restaurants, and clubs. I don't know many hostels there, just one. Its called Casa Comtesse:

There must be other hostels around, though.
In case you want to stay closer to the Zocalo and the attactions downtown, there is a nice hostel called "Casa Moneda" A couple of Dutch friends stayed ther some years ago and they liked it.

Finaly, Coyoacán is also a nice place to stay with many things to see. Its like a small town dropped in the middle of the city. A good hostel there is Hostal de Coyoacán:

Well, this city is so huge, there are so many places to stay. So, what kind of things do you want to see or do in MC? If you haven't been here, i would also reccommend the pyramids of Teotihuacán.
In Condesa there are nice "pre-party" bars like "Pata Negra" and plenty of clubs. It just depends on what kind of place you want to be in.
Well, if you need any help or advice, feel free to ask!
Cheers from Mexico

Andrés

You can check the hostels here: http://www.hostelworld.com/findabed.php/ChosenCity.Mexico+City/ChosenCountry.Mexico?source=googleadwordsnorthamerica&gclid=COuOtIy42pACFSBeagodnDl4Vw

anyway I think is better to stay in Condesa instead of the downtown... you can get the turibus for a fast view of the city... if you need more help don't hesitate to ask me... bye for now!

I stayed at Hostel Amigo when I was in Mexico City. If you want a fun place with lots of partying and drinking then this is the place for you! If you want to be in bed early to get a good nights sleep then avoid staying there. The music was up so loud that the floor and walls in the room I was in up on the next level were vibrating and were like that until about 2-3am each night I was there. If you booked on the internet and stayed in the cheapest room it was extremely cheap. It was far more expensive to just turn up and hope you got a space. When I stayed there it included breakfast in the price and also a free city tour which was run by that hostel and it's partner one which I wrote down as being called Moneda Hostel (which was a kilometre or so away from Hostel Amigo). The price also included free internet, but it was soooo slow my dead grand father moves almost as fast in his grave! It was just better to pay some money and go to the internet cafe for that instead of waiting 10 minutes for a basic page to fully load!

Have a great trip!

Well it all depends on what kind of trip you are looking for, there are several places really cheap to stay at. But just as aharrold45 said, if you do your bookings through the internet it will be safer, cheaper and very possible cheaper too.

As for entertainment there are two ways you can check on events and the like, one is published every wednesday and it gives you the updates on everything going on for the week, it is only 9 pesos (less than a buck) and it contains hints on restaurants, tv, cinema, popular events, museums, etc., and i think you can check it online too.
