I'm planning a trip to Asia this February.
I'll arrive in HCMC and plan to make it to Phenon Phen and from there to Sien Riep.

My questions.
What do you recomend to visit in HCMC? I'm not into the tunnels stuff, any other places to visit? How many nights should I spent there?
By the way, any recomendation on a hotel, clean, safe and close to the nice things to visit?

How about the best way to make it into PP? I don't want to fly, so what's better, bus or boat?

I was thinkin about taking a boat from PP to SR, but I've seen a lot of people saying to do it by bus instead, what is the general idea?!

Many thanks for any help.

I recommend you stay in the Pham Ngu Loa area. De Tham St. is the backpacker area of HCMC. Plenty of hotels & restaurants to choose from and decent location. Many of the tour companies have offices right on De Tham St. You have a range of prices. Low of about $6/nite and up. Use the 'accommodation' option just below the TP logo. Click 'vietnam, then HCMC. Take a look at what is offered. If you want a $10 room, don't book anything online. There are soo many to choose from it is silly to commit yourself to one hotel. Look at them once there. Then bargain. You usually can knock off a few $s from the stated price. Esp. if you stay 3 or more days.

I suggest you do a city tour for an overall look at HCMC, then a delta tour. Decide if 1,2,3 days are what you want. Stop in any travel shop and looked at what is offered close to HCMC. If you have the time, perhaps a 2-3 day trip up to DaLat would be to your liking. Cool, green, smaller, DaLat is a nice break from big cities. I have plenty of HCMC & DaLat photos in my gallery. I suggest a few days in HCMC, a few days for the delta tour, and 2-3 days for DaLat if you have the time.

I take the bus between HCMC and Phnom Penh. Was $6, now I think you can go all the way on one bus for around $12. Ask the travel shops. It is worth a bit more to not have to change buses at the Moc Bai/Bavet border. The boat is more scenic, price is about the same. Ask kids on your city and Delta tour if they have come overland from PP. Someone in the group will have arrived that way. Then decide if the road or river is how you want to go.

PP to Siem Reap is also a choice between road or water. Road is much cheaper: $6. boat is $23. Your decision.
Send me a PM if you have additional questions.
