Hi, i'm in Sydney at the moment, i've stayed in a few hostels and the D-lux hostel in Kings cross is probably one of the nicer hostels i've stayed in so far. Its in a handy area and it is clean, secure and has good facilities. People seem to tend to stay a while there too. Hope this helps!
When I arrived in Sydney I just hopped on the train out to Kings Cross, only knowing that I didn't really feel like staying in the city. The first hostel I came across when I walked out of the subway was 'The Great Aussie Backpackers', and I never looked back... It's a little smaller (about 80-90 beds) than Wake-up and the like but the place has a really good, laid-back vibe and because there's no bar in the hostel itself they have set up a 5 nights a week bar crawl with $100-200 bar tabs every night (so I got pretty drunk everynight without spending much if any money at all) Free Breakfast everymorning (and the stuff is actually edible), Free pancake feast on sunday with movie marathons of awesome classics (The Rocky marathon reigns in my mind), and Free BBQ on Friday night to line your stomach well and truly for the weekend ahead.
Hey I stayed for 3.5 months there and I loved it... but then its like anything... its all about the people!
you can try to check this hostel, Great Aussie Backpackers.enjoy your trip!
