Travellerspoint members alert!

Hi everyone,

It came to my attention earlier today that a member of Travellerspoint has been SPAMMING certain users with a message starting as below. That user has been deleted and all the messages have also been deleted (in case you received an email stating you have a message from THOMAS TOMTOMYARO, usually with the title PLEASE CONFIRM TO ME, that message is now gone).

Obviously, this is blatantly abusing the terms and conditions of usage of the site as well being disrespectful and useless and it will not be tolerated here at Travellerspoint.

I encourage everyone to use the same common sense when receiving messages as they would when receiving emails of this sort. If you get messages from total strangers requesting friendship, money, email addresses etc. etc. please be very cautious! If you feel you are being spammed, don't hesitate to drop Pete or me an email or message. We built the messaging system because it makes it very hard and time consuming to spam others but unfortunately there are still people who seem to have nothing better to do with their time than waste other peoples.

The message in question:

Dear Beloved One

Good a thing to write you. I have a proposal for
you-this however is not mandatory nor will I in
any manner compel you to honour against your will.

Your profile pushed me to send you this mail,I am Silvia J.Martins ,21years old and the only daughter of my late parents Mr.and

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to let you know, the same SPAMMER has been at it again. We are working hard on developing a way that this will be eliminated in the future. We had never expected there would be people who were sad enough, and had so much time on their hands(!), that they bothered to manually copy/paste/send messages to other members.

We do NOT condone or accept this in any way and as mentioned, hope to quickly have a system in place to stop this kind of ridiculous usage of the site!

Happy travels to all!

Hi everyone,

Just another update on this area. We have now equipped the messaging center with a "Flag as SPAM" function. Basically, if you receive a message and think it is spam, you can click on this link and the member who sent the message to you will be blocked from sending any more messages. Pete or myself will receive a copy of the message if anyone flags someone as a spammer and can undo the block if it is a mistake. If not, that user will not be allowed to send messages. This should help make the messaging area spam free!

Hmmmm .. . . haven't gotton any spams here, but this kind of sounds like those Nigerian 411 scams you get in your email inboxes from time to time. Some con artist, often from Nigeria (hense the name) asks you to put up a sum of money in a bank account- often in the Netherlands, etc.- and then you will receive a huger sum of money- like a couple hundred grand or even million- for the help. Of course if people actually do it they loose their money and get nothing in return. The "letter" is written to sound like someone with less than perfect English, but endearing and often peppered with "God bless yous" and whatnot.
