Myself and another girl are planning our trip to SEA and would like some advice. We're thinking of flying into Hong Kong then going over land to Hanoi. Would like to know if there are any other places in Vietnam we should see.

From Vietnam we plan to go over land to Loas but as to where we should go here would love some suggestions. We want to do the slow boat on the Mekong River and visit Vang Viang.

From Loas we plan to go to Thailand maybe starting north in Chiang Mai working our way down over land to Bangkok then maybe flying to Indonesia possible to Bali and working our way overland to Java. Any interesting things we should do in these places??

From Java getting maybe a Ferry?? to Singapore spending few days here(is that enough), then getting a bus to Kuala Lumpur, not sure how long to spend here??

Then back to overland to Thailand to do the islands: Koh Phi Phi, Koh toa, Koh Sumi, Koh PhaNgan.

Plan to do the diving course in Koh toa would it benefit us to do this before we go to other places??

Also How much time do you think we should spend in each place?? We have 3 months to do the whole lot, do we have enough time?? Do you think this is a good route to take??

Also we're starting out in mid September(If this makes a difference)

Sorry for all the questions. Any help would be brilliant

First of all I would say no, you don't have enough time to see all this in 3 months. Or at least see things properly without spending most of your time on a bus. Seeing a few of the highlights of Southern China on the way to Vietnam will take a couple weeks at least. Vietnam, even if you stick just to the North will be two weeks. Laos deserves a week or two, Thailand a month, especially if you plan to see both the North and South, Malaysia a week or two, and Bali to Singapore, at least a month. These times are if you just plan to skip over to the highlights and not really take time to relax. You are looking at 4 months minimum to see all this.
So I think you'll have to cut something out. 3 months is just about perfect to do a trip from Singapore to Bangkok and around Indochina. Cutting out China and Indonesia will give you enough time to see the rest.
A few of my highlights in the region:
China - Hong Kong, Guilin, Lijiang
Vietnam - Sapa, Halong Bay, Hanoi, Hoi An
Laos - Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng
Thailand - Chaing Mai, Pai, Sukathai, Bangkok, Koh Tao, Koh Lanta, Krabi
Malaysia - Penang, Cameron Highlands, Perhentian Islands.
Indonesia - haven't been yet.
Don't forget there's Cambodia too which has Angkor, my highlight of the entire region.
