Hi ya,

I just wanted to run our proposed India trip by a few of you experts out there and see what you thought and whether you could offer any tips or advice.

Fly in to Delhi and stay 2 nights (hire a driver to shuttle us around the major sites) > Take our driver to Agra (any tips here for organising a guide?) and pay for his return journey to Delhi without us > Take the overnight train that evening from Agra to Varanasi and stay for 2 nights > Get an over night overnight train the next evening (3rd day) back to Delhi > Get the overnight train to Jaisalmer that evening > stay at Jaisalmer for 3/ 4 nights......

..... from here we are a bit stuck. We have 14 days and also want to see Udaipur.

We are flying from Udaiper to Kochi where we will stay in Allepey for 7 nights.

Can you suggest what to do after Jaisalmer. I know it is difficult get to but we definitely want to see it.

Also would you suggest we stay 2 nights at fort Cochin or just visit it as a day trip from Allepey?

Even if you can help with one thing only, id still appreciate your thoughts!

2 nights at cochin is best i think, i just passed thru on a flying visit and there is a lot to see if your prepared to take the time
id like to see more of it for definate
if your looking for another location to visit on the way, why not try goa
thats if its accessible from your last location, it should be and its definately worth a look
there are some huge crocodiles there, monkeys at the waterfall, the truly deserted paradise beach, the nightclub and hippy market near anjuna
the main cities are mapusa and panaji, definately worth a visit, the church of sir francis xavier in panaji and the markets in mapusa among other things

In the first little bit you have an awful lot of long train journeys and pretty tight schedule. I would say by time you get to Rajasthan you are going to want to rest for a bit and so with only 14 day i think you have just about enough planned. Spend 4 days in Jaisalmer, and 3 days in Udaipur. If you have a day or two to spare, stop off in Jodhpur for a bit.
What are you going to do in Allephy for 7 days? Or when you say Allephy do you mean the backwaters and other towns around it. Allephy itself is really just a stopover spot and there isn't a whole lot to do there. Fort Cochin on the other hand has lots to see and is worth a couple or a few days of your time.

In Allepey, we are considering this as a complete chill-out stop and treating this part of the trip as our honeymoon. We know it will be quiet but intend to invest in some luxury, lots of treatments and of course a backwater overnight boat trip.

One last thing, lots of you have suggested a stay at fort cochin...but how easy is it to get to and how long will it take from Allepey if we wanted to do a day trip for instance and can we see most things in a day?

Thanks for all of your help so far.

Alleppy to Cochin is 4-5 hrs by road, but i would advice to spend at least one night in Cochin, so that u have time to visit the attractions of Fort Cochi.

While in Alleppy, do not forget to visit the nice n quiet Alleppy beach and enjoy some cofffe at the "Indian coffee house" which is situated right along the beach. Also take a cruise along the famous Vembanand Lake which is an experience in itself.

Since u have 7 nights, i would suggest u to visit the town of Thekkady which is around 4 hrs from Alleppy. Thekkady is a wild life reserve and u can pamper urself on an elephant safari through the jungles

Do let me know if u need more info

Have a nice and enjoyable honeymoon, the memories of which u can cherish for a lifetime:)
