will be in singapore for the Chinese new year and am planning to catch the festivities enumerated in the Singapore Travel Blog. as a young woman of chinese descent, i feel i have to catch up on this kind of thing. and maybe pass it on to my kids.

will be coming from Hong Kong, and can anyone here tell me which hotel to stay in SG? am choosing between Claremont and Beach Hotel, in large part because of their rates, but i don't even have an idea whether they are near the festivities. halps! and, oh, i don't have kids, so not that it would matter in my choice of hotel hahz.

Hey karmctramp,

welcome in advance to Singapore :)

We're so small that as long as you choose to stay somewhere near an MRT station it's pretty much easy to travel. Between the two hotels you're looking at, the Beach Hotel will be closer to the festivities at the Esplanade and Marina Bay (MRT stop: City Hall). It's at Bugis which has its own shopping mall and is relatively near town . Bugis is also a semi-backpacker area, plus it's close to Arab street where you can explore some Malay/Arab heritage. From Bugis station you can take a direct MRT line to Outram station and you'll be at Chinatown.

Claremont is at Little India, very near an MRT station too. It's opposite a 24h shopping mall but I don't like that place.

I personally have never heard of these two hotels, just commenting based on what I'm reading from the links. Have fun! Feel free to ask anything else :)
