Hi, im looking for a car hire company that will allow me to hire a car in one state, lets say washington DC, and then drop it off in another state, lets say Florida. Are there many hire companys that do this? Can you please recommend me some? Preferably cheap ones! Thanks in advance :)

All of the major car rental companies offer one-way rates. You have not stated your age either here or in your profile - that will play a deciding factor in the renting of a car. Most car rental agencies will not let a car to someone under the age of 21 and most have a minimum age requirement of 23. There are some independent agencies who will rent a car to someone who is at least 18, but not younger.

Some of the more popular rental agencies are:

Go to their websites and input your pick-up and drop-off destinations. Several will ask for your country of residency in the process. Pricing will most likely be dependant upon the number of days you plan to use the vehicle. Mileage may or may not be included but check the websites for special deals too.

It also should be mentioned that one-way hires can be significantly more expensive than round-trip hires. (I've seen drop-off rates of $500). So it definitely pays to shop around and don't be afraid to ask them in what close-by cities you may be able to pick up or drop off in order to avoid the additional fees.

Another left-of-field option would be to try and find a car through something like . People who need their car moved from one state to another (and don't want to drive themselves) use the service to find a driver willing to do it. It's not so easy to find a car that really matches exact requirements, but it might at least get you somewhere close if you're not too picky :)

It's the cheapest option I know of, but certainly not the most convenient.

An additional question for all:

Do any of the main hire companies allow you to drive out of America? As in into Canada?

Hi, thanks for the reply's! im 24 so there shouldn't be no problems with actually hiring a car. Im hoping to actually go from New York to Florida, whilst stopping off at all the states in between the two. Once ive reached Florida im then hoping to catch a flight to California. Hopefully it will all go to plan :)

Enterprise is another big one too. At 24 you will still get charged a higher rate by at least some of the companies, so definitely figure this is:)
