Travel Forums Europe Amsterdam- Fun with an infant?

I am travelling to Amsterdam on business and was wondering if it would be a fun place to visit with my wife and 8-month old daughter. Due to the cost of paying extra for an infant ticket, i wanted to make sure the trip would be "worth-while". I know that we wouldnt be able to go to a lot of nice bars, etc.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

I think you would be just fine. As always in the Dam, be careful.
I will say this, my wife and I have the best time watching the Dutch families. They are the best, and have the best time. The Dutch kids don't seem to be anything like american kids, they just have a ton of fun playing in the local fountains and parks. Not as bratty..... I say go for it.

I think it would depend upon your wife. If she would sit around moping and missing the little one and complaining that you aren't spending enough time with your daughter as it is, take your baby along.

Otherwise it would be better to leave your child in the hands of a good caretaker and do the romantic thing. At 8 months your daughter is much to young to enjoy a trip, she wants mummy & daddy, food and animals in the zoo.

Unless it is for the quality time with her you don't have to drag her to Amsterdam for this.

It is true, there are Dutch families with small children living in Amsterdam and there are enough places that cater to families. So it would be alright and possibly fun to take her along. Take a look at http://www.iamsterdam.com/visiting_exploring/special_interest/children_families for suggestions for family trips to Amsterdam. The tips are mostly aimed at families with older children, but maybe you can pick up something anyway.
