Hi,

I'm planning a trip to SE asia from June to August and am trying to decide if I should do it on a tour or by myself. In Europe I've always travelled alone or with mates and met people in hostels, bars etc.
But on my first overseas trip to Vietnam I travelled alone and thats pretty much how it stayed. Staying in hotels/guesthouses I found there was no interaction with other travellers. It wasn't until my last few days in vietnam that I did a tour and met a few people. I don't mind having a few days on the road to myself (in fact its often good to get away from people you've been with for 4 weeks straight!!) but its far better to have a few people with you to share the experience..

So....
Are there any hostels in Thailand,Laos or Cambodia? (excluding Bangkok :) )

where do you generally meet other travellers?

My idea at the moment is to do a few short tours and my own thing in between. I figure I should meet a few people who are going to the same places I am...

Can anyone suggest any good tours company's?

Cheers

Prids.

I think, generally in those countries you mentioned; travellers generally meet-up at `travellers' bars. In Siem Reap, Cambodia-there's Angkor What?Lotsa friendly travellers there. I definately love Baphoun Guesthouse there. The people there are crazy sorta funny.

In Phnom Phen, the guesthouse I stayed in had a nice courtyard where everyone generally chilled together-Okay guesthouse.

In Luang Prabang, Laos-there's this one and only bar called the HIVE and Vang Vieng is basically a travellers' town.

After a rowdy session at the bars, most of the travellers would retreat to the solitude of the guesthouses. Which would probably explain why the guesthouses are rather `unfriendly' (?)

Then again. short tours are definately where you can meet fellow travellers.
