Finding Sponsorship

Travel Forums Australia / New Zealand & The Pacific Finding Sponsorship

After spending time travelling around Australia I would really like to gain sponsorship to work there (I dont want to be restricted to a WHV and have to return after a year) but as I have only worked in an administrative capacity (not exactly something that is on the skills in demand list) for a number of years within the public sector would this be possible?

I have been looking through the NSW Government jobsite and I read somewhere that they have the authority to sponsor people to work for them and I was wondering, if I were to apply for one of the jobs that does not require you to be an Australian citizen/resident would there ever be the possiblity of them agreeing to sponsorship if I showed my worth??

Has anyone come across this or have any information that might be useful.

When I was out there 3 years ago visiting my sis, her chum was working just as a receptionist in a beauticians in Bondi Junction and they offered her sponsorship with no qualms whatsoever. I dont think she took it as she wanted a bit more to do for 4 years but it was nice to see how potentially easy it could be.

I want sponsorship but unfortuneately the area I want work in is government funded and only yearly so I dont stand a chance there. So its an MA at a uni there to get the points needed to tip me over into residency as the main option for me!

I think having some good skills does help with the sponsorship application but I would hazard a guess, its where you end up working and their attitude and whether they like you and can see you as a potential to invest pot luck probably.

Good luck though.

AND do you know that if you get 3 months recognised agricultural/regional work under your belt in your first year, you can extend for a second year? It DOESNT just have to be fruit picking either...a stint WWOOFing counts as 'regional work'

Have a look into it if you want more than a year's fun in the good land.

Iv posted elsewhere about getting sponsored but thought id just chip in here to say that iv actually been sponsored in a government job. It is a skilled position though-immigration have a list of occupations eligible under their sponsorship visa

Good luck
