Hi all

Myself and my girlfriend are flying into Rio from Lima on 3 Feb 2005 to experience the Sambodromo (hopefully) and everything the carnival has to offer - one BIG party!

Can anyone please advise how we can go about getting tickets to the Sambodroma. How does everyone else do it? I have surfed many a site and am not getting any straight answers.

It seems that the only way is a package which includes airfares that we don't need. I am also a little concerned about doing it over the web, ie throwing my credit card # into the ether, but can't think of any other way.

Any information/advice you hardened travellers can offer regarding does and don'ts at Carnival would also be appreciated.

Thanks anyone who can advise.

Nick (Australia)

It's not easy to buy tickets, because the government sells all the available tickets to the big Travel Agencies, and they want to sell packages, not only tickets. I'll send you in private an e-mail, someone that probably will have tickets to sell you.

I'm hoping to get mine around three weeks previous to Sambadrome I've been looking at the ticket sales via travel agents and have read you can actually get them half the price if you wait until nearer the time, is this true

What I heard, the higher prices are called "tourist prices" Local travel agents can provide them to you at a more competitve rate. That's my plan. No sense forking 200 buck, sitting in seperate box from the locals. What's the fun in that?

Exactly I agree I think they are tourist prices and so are alot higher. I will be trying a local agent upon arrival in Rio to get a section with a bunch of locals in it

I was in Rio this year (2005) for Carnaval. We booked and bought our tickets in advance from Rio Carnival. I found them on the net.
