just been reading some of the threads on the recommended places to stay during FMP. A number of people recommend booking it in advance, how long before the party should you leave it before booking something? i'm arriving to bkk on 17th mar and going to head down for the party on 21st, i was hoping to leave booking till i got to bkk, is that a gd idea??

if any one has any more recommendations for accomadation, that'd be quality too.

thanks for any help
Andy :D

If you know you are definitely going down to Koh Pha Ngan for the Full Moon then I'd say book up now.
Also, if you can, try to get there a few days before the Full Moon as the nights building up to the Full Moon are excellent as well. Most places will only take bookings over the Full Moon period for a minimum of five days, so if you wanted to arrive on the day you'd probably have to stay for a few days afterwards (when it's really quiet), so if you're booking in advance you're better off having you're five days before the Full Moon when there's more stuff going on (e.g. Beach Soccer Turnament, Coral Bungalows pool party, volleyball competiton, Muay Thai at Haad Rin stadium).

If you want to book in advance then Coral Bungalows and Same Same Resort take internet bookings. They're reasonably cheap (500-800 Baht per night if I remember correctly), but if you wanted anywhere cheaper (300-500 Baht per night) you'd basically have to turn up in Haad Rin and wander along to the top end of sunset beach.
The March Full Moon isn't one of the busiest Full Moons (as far as I remember), but even a 'quiet' Full Moon is still totally packed, so if you want somewhere a bit cheaper I'd recommend getting there 5 days before. There'll still be places available 2 or 3 days before, but by then your options are more limited.

Hello Andy,

Booking in advance is strongly recommended. Often you pay less on the internet and you do not have the hassle on arrival. The nicer places with hot shower and maybe air-con or a swimming pool (above 1000 baht a night) are surely fully booked well in advance. Every full moon party the island and especially the Haad Rin area is very busy.

Have a nice holiday and should you want to book in advance check our website for a good choice of nice places.

Sawadee krap.

Coral Bungalows has a pool and air-con rooms (as well as fan rooms) and is cheaper than 1000 Baht per night. In fact as long as you don't mind not being on Sunrise Beach then there are quite a few nice places for under 1000 Baht per night, although most of them don't take internet bookings. You could always look up their phone numbers on the internet though and give them a ring. If you have a mobile phone with you then sims in Thailand are really cheap, as are calls.

Generally I would disagree about places getting booked up well in advance, although it depends what 'well on advance means.' Five days before a Full Moon most places still have vacancies (especially in March), but like I said 2-3 days before the Full Moon some places will be full and you'll have less cheap options.
