An extreme right politician (Geert Wilders) is about to publish an anti-Islam movie. The movie will take 15 minutes in total in which Wilders is trying to show that the Quran is a fascistic book which incites violence. He even wants to Quran to be banned in the Netherlands. He openly says that Islam is a retared religion and that the Dutch culture is superior (the Netherlands has integration problems of mostly Muslim immigrants - that is where it is all about). The movie will end with an image of Mohammed and something will happen to this image (he didnt say what will happen but I can guess).

Wilders says that the movie is ready and that it will be published in the Netherlands and on internet in March. Meanwhile there is happening a lot in the muslim world. Mass demonstrations in Indonesia, Sudan and Afghanistan. Dutch flags are burned. Some demonstrators scream death to the Dutch. Threats to boycot Dutch products in several Muslim countries if this movie will be broadcasted. Dutch travellers in Muslim countries might be target of terrorists (Indonesia, Egypt and Marocco are popular destinations for many Dutch). Taliban is threatening to target the Dutch militairy in Afghanistan (even more then now apparantly).

The problem is that these countries don't understand that this the opinion of one politician and not of the entire Dutch population. And because freedom of speech is the cradle of Dutch democracy, the Dutch parliament can't prohibit this movie (because it is not even clear what the content of this movie is). I sincerely hope he is not going to broadcast this movie because it is truly spreading hatred and it is very disrespectful. But at the other hand i think that (extreme) muslims shouldn't be so sensitive about this one man. They are exactly reacting the way he wants it. Namely burning flags and start death threatening to ALL Dutch (what better proof and confirmation of the movie can you give). But in the first place i think that any anti-religion campaign should not be showed. Religion is emotion and for many people the most important in life. Openly critizise religion is asking for trouble. A peaceful and respectful dialogue between sane people is much more useful.

I am interested in other peoples opinions. Thanks:).

To be honest, I think this guy is an idiot. He doesnt respect other ppl's religion. There will be a very huge demonstration all over the world and I feel very pity for the Dutch. Just because this guy, the nation will be attacked by seperatist and extremist groups.

It is prejudiced to say Islam incites violence when the other religions do too. It is just good luck for us in Europe that our civilization has come to a point where we are able to keep our religious nutters under control. But it is a pity they can still break the noise laws here in Germany with their quarter hourly bell ringing when the rest of us are told to turn down our Heavy Metal.
Religion had it time and place. When is that useless outdated rubbish going to hit the trash can and get out of the way of progression??????

The fact that he will probably be murdered for this shows there might just be truth to his story.

*has visions of sewing a Belgian flag on his backpack and having to go around telling people, "yeah, we hate him too, and no, I didn't vote for him"*

Oh, no, wait - this guy isn't our supreme leader, but just one minor right-wing politician who happens to be good at being provocative and getting a few disgruntled elements to vote for him, but whose party will be gone again one or two elections hence, just like the LPF and the CD and whoever knows which earlier parties came before those.

I don't know what it's like in the parts of the world where the Islam is big, but I suspect the majority of people there will be just as much rolling their eyes at those easily incited elements who actually fall for our nutter's provocative actions. And with a bit of luck the media will soon find another story to chase, so that all the hatred moving about in this echo-chamber of emotions can just die down.

Seems incredibly stupid given what happened to Van Gogh.

I just watched an interview with Geert Wilders and thought it was a joke. But it appears that his hair is real.

If it is acceptable for moslems to demonstrate in the streets of Europe's capital cities screaming for the beheading of a 72 year old Danish cartoonist while carrying placards saying 'Europe Is The Cancer, Islam Is The Answer' and 'Behead Those Who Insult The Religion Of Peace' (my favourite), then Geert Wilders has every right to publish or show his opinion of Islam.
The content of his video should rest on it's veracity, not it's so-called hurt to Islamic sensibilities.
I believe one of the central themes of the video is the assertion that Islam is a violent and intolerant faith/culture, yet we find that release of the video will cause violence and murder as promised by the very advocates that Islam is a religion of peace.
Sheet, that is one tautology!!!!
Europe (or should that be Eurabia) is sinking into dhimmitude and, if the emmigration figures are to believed, the wealthy and professional Dutch and British are emigrating to the USA and OZ to escape the creeping Islamization of Europe.
It comes down to one simple concept -

Islamic pressure (external and primarily economic) and the moslem immigrants to Europe will decide the limits of your democratic rights or you will pay in blood.

You are on your own on this one, cause the US won't save you asses this time.

European Of The Year.

It's always rather ironic when someone who espouses democracy tries to ban other people's right to believe what they will. There's a downside to democracy--you have to put up with opinions and religions and beliefs, etc. etc. that you don't agree with.

It depends on how sophisticated ones model of democracy is.
Some in a very simple minded way believe that democracy means majority rules or everybody can do what they want.
