Okay, it's the old question of if you were deserted on an island what three things would you take? Oh and how do you get over return to work blues after a holiday? I'd would probably have to book another one so that I'd have something to look forward to.

1. A GPS receiver
2. A satellite phone
3. A boat

Okay, probably not really in the spirit of the question. Really I would want company and food, so I guess another person, something to hunt with and something to cook with.

As for the post holiday blues, pretty much booking another one is a good idea.

Plus I think you need to find joy in the small things in life. Given that it's summer, I spend pretty much every weekend walking to and exploring a new part of Toronto (my home town). Last weekend I went down to little India for the India festival, and then made my way south through the neighbourhoods there. It's always interesting for me to see the differences (and similarities) between the areas of Toronto. So, every weekend I have something to look forward to - exploring and learning about a new part of my home city.

I think anyone can do this anywhere, really. We (myself included) tend to take for granted too much the things close to us. Go to your home town or regions local tourist center and pick up some brouchres. You might be amazed at the things by your own house that you never knew existed!

Hmm, off the top of my head:

1) my boyfriend (at least we'll be next to an ocean rather than an ocean away!)

2) a chalet with a stocked fridge and a fully functional bathroom

3) an unlimited supply of good music

As for the blues, I think planning the next vacation definately helps. Although it's kind of counterproductive to feel like you're only really "living" when you're on vacation. So - planning little things to look forward to is great, too. Good restaurants, festivals (we have tons in Montreal, which helps), small day trips, anything.

Or maybe just throwing in the towel and travelling for good. Yippee!

John - by (3), you do mean a huge plasma Tv with every satelite and premium channel known to man (plus unexhaustable power supply), don't you....?

Wouldn't be a bad thing, i must admit...

Urm. Dunno what 3 items i'd take. Greg makes allot of sense.
But assuming theres a water supply, i'd probably something like a top swiss army knife, spear or some such and probably a large supply of some strong sleeping tablet. Regardless of how beautiful and amazing it was, I'd go nuts being in one place like that for a long period of time (i'm going nuts now because i've been home for almost 3 weeks, which is barely off my record for longest time in one place in 12years!!), and if there's no chance of being rescued think i'd prefer to be able to end it easily (no stabbing myself with a spear) after a few months if i so desired.

A radio/ipod+speakers (and power source) would be great as would an inexhaustable book or internet access. I really struggle when i don't have some sort of imput, be it news or fiction...

well Tiki I would probably bring the most sensibe thing- suncream coz if I'm on a desert island stranded then i think i might be in real danger of getting sunstroke and i right????

I would also bring my toothbrush and toothpaste coz my teefs wud be very dirty if i was alone on a desert island sayin that there would be no1 around to impress or talk to so I doubt il have to worry bout my breath bn bad so instead of those things I would take Tigga coz I love him and can't live without him and i can use him as a pillow and he can bounce around the island entertaining me so i don't get bored on my own hehe!

and finally I would take my mobile coz my mum said i have to keep in touch awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!

Tiki I would get over goin bak to work by never goin bak or hiring tigga to work with me yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay..
lotsa luv Taniax ;)
