Yes, it can be a little difficult for new members to know where the best place is to post questions - but don't let that stop you!

Welcome anyway - hope you can get some idea's and answers on the other forums.

Also, hope you post some pic's and info in a blog from all that travel you have planned!

"Cinque terre" it's the right way to say :) (I admit that I never heard before about that island ehehehe!)

The best way to move in italy it's the train. (They are not wonderfull but they are cheap)

If you choose the "AMICA" solution for train travel ticket you will save a 20% in your booking in advance.

Or maybe you should look for some cheap flight.
Never travel alone at night on the train, sometimes I saw some dodgey people especially in weekends when there are guys that travel to watch football play.

I lived 4 years in Rome so I can give you some tips about that city (I saw venice and florence, so I don't think that I can help you too much on that).

Rome it's a place worth to stay at least 3 days. Venice you can enjoy it in one day or max two (sometimes smell bad because of the sea that it's nearby).

Probably the best route is Venice -> Florence -> Pisa -> Rome (and you will fly back from Rome)
