Roll all of your clothes up and stack them in layers. Obviously put any heavy things near the bottom, makes it easier to carry.

Its amazing how much you can get in the little zipper parts of the back pack.

Dont take too much stuff. Get all your stuff together and then take out a few things that might be to big or heavy. You will need space to store the stuff you pick up on your travels.

Dont make the mistake i done, went to meet my sister for two weeks in NYC...i had more stuff in my rucksack than they had for 8 months RTW!!!

Go light is my best advice. You can always pickup new clothes on your travels

Hope this helps

try and get one of them trek travels towels, the blue ones, dead small and save a lot of space in your bag.

Hi Laurie,
Going light is good advice, but fox has it the wrong way round - heavy things go at the top.
Mountain Leader training tells you that when you walk with a backpack on (even on the flat) your body is never quite upright, but leans slightly forward. The heavy items are therefore directly above your centre of gravity and, with a proper-fitting waistbelt, will feel lighter than they would if packed at the bottom of the pack, hanging out over your bum and pulling your spine outwards. Spare clothes and sleeping bag go at the bottom.

If you're not going to have the pack on your back for lengthy periods, though, it hardly matters. If you can afford public transport to get from airport to accommodation, I'd take a holdall instead, or even a suitcase.

i've been packing for my travels, i leave for oz nxt week YAY

I reckon those EAGLE CREEK zipup mesh bags in all sizes , including one for shoes are wicked, a real must have. u can organise your backpack like a file system - easy to find everyting and the air tight ziplock bags r good too.

another tip - to keep everything smelling fresh is to put those bounce sheets - one used in tumble dryer , into your clothes bags etc.

happy travels everyone
