Hi, everybody.
My name is Beatriz, from Spain.
I´m preparing a travel to Ireland this September. I´d like to visit some cities but , speciallly, some beautiul and typical villages.
I want to stay there for 10 days, more or less.
Can anybody help me to prepare this trip?
Thank you so much.
Bea.
Places to visit in Ireland?
Hi Beatriz,
I'm Peter and write an independent travel guide to Dublin. You will easily find lots of information about the major Irish cities through a Google search. Your question is really interesting though! Here are some smaller towns and villages I would recommend:
- Kinsale, Co. Cork: beautiful fishing town on a stunning sea inlet, with a wide choice of eating places
Schull, Co. Cork: Another fishing village with typical stone houses
Bantry, Co. Cork: Fine town with its own country house, surrounded by rolling hills and the sea
Trim, Co. Meath: Medieval town with ruined castle. Typical of many midlands towns.
Newgrange, Co. Meath: Hugely important megolithic remains (lots of web stuff on this)
Drogheda, Co. Meath: Typical large Irish town, also containing the relics of Blessed Oliver Plunkett, the magnificient Boyne railway bridge. Call to Co. Meath on the way to Co. Sligo, Co. Galway etc.
Shannonbridge, Co. Offaly: Centre of the bogland in Ireland, this is a picturesque village on the River Shannon (the largest river in these islands), and convenient for a visit to neaerby Clonmacnoise. You can also tour the bogs on a tourist narrow guage train nearby. Call here on the way to, say, Co. Galway, Co. Clare.
Just some ideas - I'm sure other people will add stuff!
Have a great trip,
Peter
