Why not go to the nearest book store, find a travel section and look under Europe, like the best of Europe, Europe on a shoestring or Europe on $75 a day. If your local bookstore doesn't carry anything of interest check on internet. I did not think modern teenagers could be so clueless!

Hi lil j,

Hanging around here and reading a bunch of posts is a good start. You can do searches for topics you are interested in and keep pretty busy for a while that way. Otherwise, certainly getting a book is a good option as well. Lonely Planet's site is also quite worthwhile - they have a nice destinations guide with very comprehensive information. I can understand that hitting the road is overwhelming for a first time traveller. Half the fun is all the anticipation of travelling though! Are you going alone or with some friends??

Cheers, Peter

p.s. Welcome to Travellerspoint.

Hey lil J

I'm kinda in a similar situation. I'm 20, I've just quit my degree after two years at uni because I feel like life is too short to be sat around doing something for the sake of it and that makes you feel horrible. I never knew what I wanted to do, and still don't, but I know that even if I come out with a 3rd class degree, I'll probably still be stuck in this same situation just another year on. So I thought I'd face the problem earlier without slogging my guts out, only to inevitably fail.

So now I am feeling a lil stuck. I have been doing my research online, I thought maybe air cabin crew, but I miss out on that by an inch, I'm 5"1. Then I thought maybe going to college and doing a course in travel and tourism and become a travel agent - I've even looked into home study. then I found this site and they have some really cool programmes where you can either just travel, or work and travel. It's not in Europe, but perhaps there's a similar thing. They help you arrange things like visas and accomodation. You've just gotta look really. At the moment, I'm getting lots of over time for the time being, and I may do a home study course in travel, just for this year and get some work experience and save up them pennies coz God knows that when you're travelling you'll need the pennies. I've never actually travelled alone anywhere, but I've visted a lot of places with my family. But I understand you're itching to get out there and see stuff, as am I. I don't know what I'm going to do, but I know that it's going to take some planning.

Take care chuck.
