Hi All

Think i will be in Auckland for around Christmas but definetly for New Year and was wondering if anyone else will be there?

Also what is there to do over this period or is everything closed? Any big New Year Parties held anywhere?

Lastly where is a good place to stay when i am there?

I stayed at Auckland Central Backpackers (ACB) when I was in Auckland and thought it was excellent. They've got the Globe bar downstairs and when I was there, there was always some sort of theme night on which usually involved generous amounts of free drink. They also organise activities every day, like games of football, trips to the beach, etc.

It's a big hostel though, and I met some people in NZ who preferred smaller hostels, so it depends what you prefer.

Hi Gordon

I'm going to be in Auckland for Xmas and I was thinking of going down to Queenstown for the New Year as it's supposed to be the biggest party town in NZ. I'm currently in Mexico but will be touching down in Auckand on 1st December, planning to stay there till end March/April time....drop me a line if you fancy meeting up or to trade ideas

Hi All,

I am going to New Zealand on December 30th. I am open for any fun proposals for New Year.

As a victim of many a New Years eve in NZ I would recommend heading to the Coromandel beaches for a party. Try and get a ticket for something - anything - though because its a popular spot. The big hostels like ACB and base also have great social calendars. There will also be a good range of club parties etc.

Queenstown and Wellington are also greeeat spots for NYE.

Happy travels

Hi Gord,

I was in Auckland for Christmas/New Year's a few years back. Can't help you much with accommodation (I stayed with my sister, who lives there), but I can tell you everything was open while I was over (from about December 12th to January 4th). We had no problems visiting anything - from beaches to restaurants to museums to cave rafting (which I highly recommend!).

As for nightlife, we went to this little club called The George on New Year's. A bit of a hole, but the music was good and we danced till we could hardly stand up anymore.

Hi everyone,

I'll be arriving in Auckland 22nd December and plan to stay at either base or central city backpackers hostel. Ticket booked today - woohoo! I'm travelling alone so would be glad to meet up with anyone along the way.

Hi whitey,

Are you travelling to NZ from Scotland or are you planning to go somewhere else first? I'm leaving UK on 1st December but going to USA and Fiji first. Plan is to arrive in Auckland 22nd Dec, going to party over xmas and new year then going to waiheke island to a job in a restaurant. let me know if you're interested in meeting up along the way.
