I think Australia has one in January but I'm not sure. It hosts bands from around the world - I can't for the life of me remember what it is called though Also Spain and Ireland hold their fare share of music festivals:)

There's loads all over Europe (and presumably across the world) most of which i actually prefer to Glastonbury and reading and most of the British ones. And there's a great website which actually lists them all, more or less, but i can't seem to find the damned link :(

There's a huge Jazz festival in Montreal every summer at the end of June/beginning of July. Lots of free outdoor shows, plus some indoor venues. It's great, even if you don't care for jazz. The finale show this year was a Cirque du Soleil/Jazz mix with some crazy stunts.

Hi there,

Here's one back home: Sarawak Rainforest World Music Festival.

This music festival brings together different bands from all over the world playing their traditional musical instrument. This ethnomusicology event is held annually in the heart of the one of the world's oldest rainforests in Borneo.

Simply enchanting!

I too a interested in music festivals. Does anyone have experience at the Eisteddfod in Wales? I plan to attend to touch base with my heritage and would appreciate any feedback. Howard

This is not a definitive list, but a start to spark your further search.

Depends on what type of music festival you are after. I can only speak about Aussie festivals. In the rock / popular music / multi-stage outdoor in the summer sun type of festival there are two biggies in Australian summer:

Big Day Out from 16 Jan - 1 Feb 2005:
Travels to Auckland, NZ (16 Jan); Goldcoast, QLD (18 Jan); Sydney NSW (23-24 Jan); Melbourne VIC (26 Jan - Australia Day); Adelaide SA (30 Jan) & Perth WA. mix of Australian & international acts.

Homebake on Sat 4 December 2004 in Sydney:
Features Australian homegrown acts, multi stage outdoor event, top day out, really good value for money.

Then you have your international festivals that include an array of the arts - film (mostly outdoor cinemas in the Austalian summer evenings, beautiful), theatre, rock music, opera, jazz, dance and heaps of free events too. Five such festivals with their dates & websites are:

1. Sydney Festival 8-30 Jan 2005:
2. Perth International Arts Festival 11 Feb - 6 Mar 2005: (this one has an amazing outdoor cinema called "Sommerville")
3. Melbourne International Asrt Festival 7-23 October 2004:
4. Adelaide Festival - runs every second year, next one is in 2006:
5. Ten Days on the Island 1-10 April 2005 in Hobart, Tasmania (TAS). Tassie is an island state of Australia, south of Melbourne and is a truly beuatiful state. Easy to drive around, great walks / hikes and breathtaking scenery. Good food, top wine and a great festival all round.

For other types of festivals in Australia, do a google for Film Festivals in Sydney, Melbourne & Perth. Also check foreign film festivals that visit Sydney (EG Spanish; Italian, Indian etc). A departure from music festivals, but good fun too.
