I just wondered if anyone can help me - as part of our RTW trip, we are going to be in Malaysia - hopefully KL or Penang - for Chinese new year (Jan 26th I believe...!) My main question is how easy is it to travel around Malaysia during the new year festivities? How long should we allow to travel (most likely travel by train) down from Thailand to KL and will we need to book train tickets in advance? Also we are thinking of flying out to Perth from Singapore around the 3rd/4th February - are we leaving enough time to enjoy the celebrations and get to Singapore in time?!? Any help/advice will be gratefully received

From what I know, travel services generally continue as per normal; however, you may find it hard to get a ticket at the last minute, as people take advantage of the longer holiday to take a break elsewhere, or to visit their families. But as long as you buy your tickets ahead of time, you should not have too much problem. Do note though, that the jams at the causeway and 2nd link (between Singapore and Malaysia) are very bad during this period. :)
