Are you flying direct to Langkawi? If yes, Langkawi is a nice island on the north west coast of Malaysia nearing Thailand border. The food and things are reasonably priced. It is a duty free island. I am sure you will like the island.

If you are flying to Kuala Lumpur, you need to take a flight to Langkawi. It is about 45 minutes flight.

Happy travelling

Hi there! ;)

Langkawi is a beautiful island!! How lucky to be able to "stopover" there. It's actually a duty-free zone. I love the sceneries and beaches. It's easy to get around just by renting and driving around. Be an adventurous one and try on the Malaysian foods! Dun think it's expensive at all. Hope you enjoyed urself during ur stopover!!

hi there!

Langkawi is a nice island to be for a stopover! Though it takes about 5-7days for a complete trip in Langkawi and her surrounding islands. There are many small islands surrounding Lankawi! Y
But you won't have to go anywhere if you like to just relax on the beach, as there are planty of beaches there! There are also 3 water falls!

If you like scuba diving or snorkerling, take a day trip to Pulau Payar, about 2 hours by boat. You'll love it! You can buy a package for your convenient. And ofcourse, you can enjoy varieties of local dishes at very reasonable prices, provided you eat at the local restaurants by the road sides or in the markets. Food in the hotels are costly! I enjoyed living in Holiday Villa but never appreciated the food prices in their restaurents. Enjoy your trip!

I have never been overseas and I am so excited to be going there myself for 4 days at the end of October 2004.

Does anyone know if I need to get any specific vaccinations (I am from Australia) if I am only going to Langkawi? (no stopovers - only changing flights from Sydney in KL).

Is is safe for a single white female (sounds like a good title for a movie!) to cycle around the countryside on her own?

Langkawi is a peaceful island. No special vaccinations required. You can try cycling but to cover more, you should rent a car or a bike.

the last time i went to langkawi which was in january 2004, i rented a van for myself and 6 of my friends and able to cover the whole island in 2 days.

just to let you know, if you decide to go for the langkawi cable car which i believe the longest cable car in asia, please call the office first. you can get the number at the hotel receptionist, or ask around. this is because the cable is very high and totally affected by the weather. so if it's too windy, they will shut it down - there's no point travelling far to get there and be dissapointed. call them first ok? how long will they shut down depends on the weather. but let me tell you... that cable car can be scary at first but once you reach the top of the hill, lo and behold, you're able to see parts of indonesia!!!

anyway, it's a tax free island, so shop away. food are delicious. hope you enjoy yourself which i know you will!
