Hey Guys!

In November and December I'm planning a trip in South America and I'm wondering what gear and equipment to bring with me!

So, here's where I'm going:
Starting in Santiago in Chile going north to Peru
Peru (Inca Trail and Machu Picchu),
going through Bolivia to get to Brazil.
Brazil going to Rio, Sao Paulo, and the Iguazu Falls
Uruguay staying in Montevideo
Argentina, Buenos Aries
then heading to the south of Chile, Puerto Montt and heading up to Santiago

We're planning to stay in hostels and just wondering if you guys think its a good idea to bring a sleeping bag, a mat, and a tent? I was planning to use them in the Inca Trail.

Do you guys think it would be a good idea? is it too heavy to bring with us?
I thought once out of Peru the only other time we'll probably use then tent would be in Southern Chile.

would i be using the tent anywhere else?
tell me what you think please

i haven't been there, so my answer isn't really credible. but..if you're staying in hostels, then most likely you wouldn't be using a tent. it'll be heavy and you'll have to lug it around with you. if you do come on a chance to use it, maybe check out if there are place to hire one? that way you can use it for the short period of time you need it and return it...not carry it around everywhere. ..right?

Hi there,
You make me think of getting back to S Am...

Tent would be heavy. I've joined the local tour in Cuzco for the Inca Trail trek. They'll arrange / carry all the tent / cooking stuff, etc for you. It worths esp you would climb up a 4200m high pass...

It may be too cold when you get to S Chile/ Pantagonia. Pls check ...
