I wish we could go away for 8 weeks! We have less than 3 weeks to travel, as both my fiancee and I have pretty strict work parameters. Because we have a meeting in San Francisco on the 18th of Jan., we are flying London (12/27)-San Francisco (12/27)-Bangkok (1/16) -San Francisco (1/16)- New York-London (1/22)- all for the pretty price of $1200/each- not bad at all!

Anyways, we decided to focus on one country instead of trying to cover the whole region, despite our desire to do so. Plus, it's our honeymoon so we don't want to run around EVERY DAY to somewhere else.

We will be spending New Year's in Bangkok and I think heading on as soon as the 1st or 2nd of January. Does anyone recommend going to the north or south first.

We plan on spending one week in each area. One week in Chaing Mai, then one week in Krabi.

As I am trying to plan all the transportation instead of winging it, I am looking into those airlines someone posted earlier (thanks chada!), to go up north, spend some time in the Lana Thai Villas perhaps, go on a 3 day trek, relax, massage, elephant rides, white water raft, and then by the 8th or so, head to Krabi to beach and relax and do nothing but get massages and drink champagne. Or perhaps switch these two weeks up and relax first.

I'm so glad people prefer Krabi over Phuket here- I really had no clue, but now I feel more confident with booking a hotel now. We are planning to stay at the Sheraton Krabi Beach Resort- does anyone have any experiences here?

And you definitely recommend backpacking? for our honeymoon? hmmm...

What I am really trying to do is plan a trip that goes to extraordinary places- nothing ordinary or super touristy... but something really special. I don't want to go where everyone else goes... I want to go where the Thai go...

Thanks for all the advice!

If you have a short time in Thailand and wants to go north and south, best is to fly. Someone said rail sleeper is $300 USD is too expensive. Flying only cost approximately $100 USD one-way on BKK Airways. The cheapest would be to take VIP bus at night a wake up in your destination. The other alternative is do what I do...drive. I usually rent a car and drive to Chiang Mai and other cities and stop and go where I want to go...but of course you must be used to driving in either Thailand or other similar countries. I'll also be vacationing in Thailand from November 27, 2004 to Januaary 27, 2005. If you need assistance feel free to contact me. Good luck...tommy.

I suggest you to stay at Tubkaak Resort in Krabi..a very nice one for Honeymooner or Sofitel Magic Lagoon in Khao Lak, peachful and you would get a great romantic time downthere.

In the north, Angkhang Nature ( Chiang Mai ) or Anantara Golden Triangle ( Chiang Rai ) is also perfect for Honeymooner. During the time that you visit is winter in Thailand...it's good that there is someone walking hand in hand with you..ha ha ha..I really envy

Wanna honeymoon too....
