I'm lucky enough to be spending 3 nights on the croatian coast at the end of july in the middle of a 6 week trip from krakow to berlin. Though i cant decide on the location.
The options being:

Pula-roman ruins, rocky beaches

Split-possible day trip to Hvar island?, The Palace of Diocletian

or anything else that can be suggested. I dont like the look of rijeka and Dubrovnik is inaccessible by train, basically something with the possibility of a good day trip a good atmosphere as my 20th birthday is there, and a nice beach to relax in the middle of a hectic trip.

Any help is much appreciated, also Zagreb? good, bad, ugly?? what are your opinions?

Both Pula and Split are nice but I guess the sea will be much cleaner in Split. Pula has vivid night life I don't know about Split. Hvar is beautiful to see.

Also from Pula you can make a one day trip to Brioni - ex Yugoslavian president Tito's summer park and house. And nice nature all around.

Zagreb is a nice city but it can be a little dangerous sometimes. Great bars and clubs. Don't judge the city by the look of the railway station:)

I think there are really cheap charter flights from Zagreb to Dubrovnik during whole summer. It's a 30 minutes flight and you can see both Dubrovnik and island KorĨula.

zagreb is dangerous? ill be getting there at like, 4:30am, single female traveller... anything to worry about?? considering booking a hostel for the night where i get there at 4:30, so i can go straight there without having to linger around waiting until a more decent hour to go there!
