I just have a question with regard to canadian work visas. I have my visa already and my friend coming with me does not have hers yet (cant apply until january as they have closed). We are leaving australia on the 17th of jan 05 and making our way from honolulu to vancouver. we want to go into canada as "visitors" and have a 4-6 week vacation planned. then once my friends visa has arrived, we will be leaving canada to do some side trips in the US, then re-enter canada presenting our visas. we have no plans on working in the first few weeks that we are there, as obviously my friend doesnt want to get deported or somehting. is this OK do enter canada like this or do you think we will have problems with customs. both of us have enough money not to work for a few months and we also have flights leaving canada. has anyone done something similar?? any advice would be appreciated.

Just as a personal opinion, I don't think you should have any problems because, as Australian citizens, you don't need a visa to enter Canada. If I'm not mistaken, you only need the visa to actually work there so if you come in as visitors and then "decide that you want to work here" I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do that. The Canadian Government website says that you need to find a job first then apply for a working permit, so your friend shouldn't have a problem. For more official info on that, this is the link to the website Hope that was helpful!

You are probably best checking your plans with the Canadian Consulate first. They are the best people to be able to tell you if what you are planning could cause issues.
