I am currently on a trip around Europe (please take a look at, and I have almost no information on Turkey. I am in Greece at the moment, and will be crossing the border into Turkey in the next few days. I want to see Istanbul for a few days, but need to find some cheap accomodation, perhaps a hostel or rooms for rent, with a garage ideally. Somewhere to the west / northwest of the city, so I can catch a bus in without driving in. My destination after Turkey is north into Bulgaria.

If anyone has ANY info they can give me on Turkey, not just Istanbul, I would greatly appreciate it! Thankyou!

Hi Jon,

Unfortunly I cannot give you specific advise about accomodation in Istanbul. However, about other staff I will try to help you. First of all, It is a very good idea to use public transport instead of driving. Because it is not easy to drive in Istanbul. You can look for a place at either Europian side or Asian side of Istanbul, since you will probably want to spend some time at each and you can easyly find puplic transportation from one side to the other, but of course if you select a place close to Sultan Ahmet area, you will save time while visiting lots pf touristic places.

As places to visit, you should definetly see Aya sofia, Topkapi palace, Dolmabahce palace, Ortakoy square, taksim square, buyuk ada, Istanbul Archaeology Museum, Sabanci Museum and Istanbul modern. if you write how many days are you planning to stay in Istanbul, I may help better

Have fun in Istanbul,

There are newly opened hostels in Beyoglu, Galata , such as:

90 212 293 55 20

A good hostel in Taksim called "Chill Out"

Balyoz Sok. Istiklal Cad. no: 3a - İstanbul, Türkiye

Single room: 25.00 EUR (one room)
Sharing room: 6.00 EUR (one person)

it's better if you check:

I think the cheapest accomodation is in Sultanamet. Its the city part near the aya sofya and blue mosque. I stayed there in 2003 for 12 euro for a double (i am not exactly sure if that is cheap for istanbul).
