Active senior couple, re-thinking 7 day trip in mid August. Original plan: 2 days in Hong Kong, 3rd day,1/2 day AM flight to Taipei, days 4-5 in Taipei, day 6, 1/2 day AM flight to Hong Kong, day 7 (Sunday) Hong Kong, day 8, fly home to US. We are having a problem trying to decide what we must see and what we can miss, and should we spend more time in Hong Kong area or is the break-up correct. Does it make any sense to book a city tour in either city? The travel guides are fine for either one day or a week in each, but that does not help us much. We really need any help you can give us to put this together. So far we have booked only the round trip US to Hong Kong. Also would like advice on what districts are most convenient for tourists to book mid-priced hotels.
Itineray for Hong Kong and Taipei
Not sure about Hong Kong but have been in Taipei. Took bus from airport to downtown Taipei on airport express, exit near train station.
Stayed at the YMCA Hotel...Very clean, private washroom and reasonable, I believe it was about $60.00 U.S. a night.....Look it up on the 'net.
Bought a subway pass for the day and travelled around Taipei, exiting and entering where we wanted.
Also, check out the train. You can buy a pass for the train which was fun to do. You can buy the ticket at the Taipei train station and get info there...They speak English...
Great fun to hop on the train, get off for lunch, hop on again and get off in another city just because you can and hop on again, stop in another city for dinner......And we're seniors, too.
visited hongkong few months a go. don't forget to take maps and tourist magazines on the airport for free.
you may take a ride on there train service it's cheap rather than taking a taxi. don't forget to bring with you a calculator if you are planning to buy something some chinese can't speak well in english they prefer inputing numbers on the calculators.
ive just been to HK for the 2nd time on my trip of asia.
a few things not to miss are;
'The peak' - i recommend going in the day and at night and on the peak tram and a different approach the bus which takes you up some mountain roads with very good views.
Mong Kok - at about 6pm for the sheer number of people.... ALOT!
Simphany of lights - Tsim sha tsui promanade at 8pm - kong kong gets brighter!
IFC2 - the tallest building in HK (88 floors), the monetary musium is free on the 55th floor, for some good views.
HK has a very good transport system, i recmmend the airport express travel pass (hk$300) gives you 2 rides on airport express and 3 days unlimited travel on the MTR (the underground).
