Hi guys

Just looking for a quick bit of advice really!

I am planning to fly into Perth for Christmas (as my friend has family there) and then fly onto Sydney for NYE.. We then plan to buy a car and drive up the east coast from there...

Do you think this is a good idea or would we be better off spending xmas and New Year in Sydney, and maybe flying to Perth at the end of our trip?

I know it would make more logical sense to go to Perth first and work our round from there but I'm more bothered about the best place to be for XMAS!!!! yay

Not sure if you're Australian or not, but I don't think there'd be much to do on Christmas day as most things are closed and the vast majority of people spend their time with family.

It's probably more up to your friend, although I'm sure they'd like to spend it with family, and hey, you'll at least have some people to hang around on xmas day (it tends to be a pretty lonely time for those away from family).

NYE in Sydney however would be a great spectacle - definately focus on this rather than xmas in my opinion!

It may also depend on availability - you need to check hostels etc now to see if there are available beds!

Hi danuta, definitely spend New Year's in Sydney, the fireworks are spectacular. But you'll have to book your hostel asap because they fill up months before.

Boxing Day (day after Christmas Day) in Sydney is like a madhouse with all the Boxing Day sales on in the CBD. No matter where you spend Christmas Day, all the shops will be shut, so unless your friend is going to spend Chrissie Day with his/her family in Perth, I'd say spend it in Sydney.

Good luck.
