Hi All,

I'm planning a 6 week trip in the States starting on the 24th of August.
Intially we will be spending some time in Florida in Miami, Then round the North east part of America (boston, Cape Cod, New York) Then round Calafornia, Las Vegas, New Mexico possible Utah and Colorado

Does anyone have any suggestions on any top class music festival I could go to? These could be large or small but prefferable no more than $250 for the ticket.

Definitely check out Austin City Limits! At this point 3-day tickets for a selection of 130 bands (8 stages) and $170. I'd try to get them soon if you want to go

It all depends on your taste in music... Personally I love the Warped Tour (dates nationwide).

Never been, but I have been told by dozens that the Austin City Limits is the best.

If you like country....The Merrittt Mountain Music festival in BC is a fantastic option.

The Monterey Jazz Festival (the longest running Jazz festival in the world) will be on September 19 to 21 this year in Monterey, California. Also, you should know that this festival occasionally has non-jazz acts if they are "soulful" and trying to "breakthrough" into the mainstream. Previous performers at this festival that fell into that category were Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix.

Here's a weblink that gives info on the festival:

Oh, and I had always heard that the Bonnaroo festival was the best (it's in Tennessee every year in mid-June).

To give you an idea, among their 110+ bands/acts were:
Pearl Jam
Metallica
B.B. King
Willie Nelson
Chris Rock (comedian)
Kanye West
Death Cab for Cutie, and
Robert Plant with Allison Krause

Enjoy

Oh, and I just have to throw in info on the best festivals I've ever attended (the US festivals of 1982 and 1983) in San Bernardino, California.

Some of the bands participating:

1982 (3 days)
Fleetwood Mac
Grateful Dead
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
The Police (before their breakup)
B-52s
Santana
The Kinks
Talking Heads
Jackson Browne
Pat Benatar
The Cars
Oingo Boingo
Eddie Money
The Ramones
Dave Edmonds
Jimmie Buffett

1983 (4 days):
David Bowie
Van Halen
U2
Stevie Nicks
The Pretenders
INXS
Ozzie Osbourne
The Scorpions
Judas Priest
Joe Walsh (when he was separated from the Eagles)
Stray Cats
Berlin
Los Lobos
Flock of Seagulls
and for you country music lovers:
Waylon Jennings
Alabama
Willie Nelson
Hank Williams, Junior
Emmylou Harris
Ricky Skaggs

Those were some festivals. I was especially impressed by the "Breakfast with the Dead"--the Grateful Dead playing at 9:30 AM on Sunday of the first festival. And I think when the Talking Heads went into "Life During Wartime" on the first day (Friday, September 3rd of 1982), it just set everything in motion for the rest of the two festivals.
