Missauga is fairly big, 500,000 people so it will have good areas and not so good. I have lived in Toronto downtown and travelled there for 20 years. I found the Bloor Street area interesting and lots of neat things within walking distance. Up north of downtown there's lots of great places to live also and the "Bullet" subway system is good for getting around all over GTA.

Mississauga is the burbs. If you are looking for funky and fun, I would think that you would want to live more central than that. Of course, it depends on if you have a car or not. If you don't have a car and are relying on public transit to get you to work out in Mississauga or Brampton, you might not want to live downtown.

A price range of what you are looking to pay for a place would help narrow the search, as well.

Anyway - there are many funky and fun areas in central Toronto. Queen St. West between University and Bathurst has a lot going on. You can extend that up to College and down to King and get a pretty big area to find a place to live.

The Danforth (Danforth Ave.) between the Don Valley Parkway and Jones is nice as well. Greek part of town, lots of lively clubs and such.

Basically, there are a lot of great places. Stay away from anything at Finch and Jane.

The area on Church St. from Bloor south to about Gerrard is the gay village. It is a really lively and funky area, but I thought I would warn you in case that would bother you.

If you are looking on-line and find a place, you can let me know via private message the address and I can tell you what I know about the neighbourhood.
