Hi everyone,

Myself and a friend are planning to travel from India across SEA to Vietnam possibly onward to the Phillipines. We'll be departing from London.
Timeframe - 4 months - can be stretched out a bit longer. May-Sep 2009

Ive travelled extensivly in europe and s.america but have no knowledge of Asia at all!

Whats the best route to take??

Must see countries for us are India, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.

How much should we budget for?? We are all about being as cheap as possible! Ive heard some accomodation can be found for as little as 3-4usd per night - thats what we like to hear!!

We're intersted in alot of beach time but also would like to experince the culture and visit historical sites!

Any advice is appriciated. Must see's/do's??

Thanks in advance

Is this an overland trip from India to Vietnam? If so, I will just point out that you can't cross from India into SEA, you must go through Nepal to China and down into Laos or Vietnam. Four months is not a great deal of time for all these countries. But if that's all you got, I would break it down to about a month and a half in India, and two and a half in Southeast Asia.

Thanks! Our plan has changed slightly. We may fly into Bombay and out of Delhi to Bangkok travel around Thailand and overland from there to Vietnam, Cambodia etc.

May to September sounds to me like the very hottest time of year in both India and SEA! Just hope you're very young and very skinny!

May also want to hope you have umbrellas and rain coats! :)

Sounds like a cool trip, and India to Bangkok flight is easily done. If you think you could see more in the time you have then Id suggest to put Nepal into the equation.
