Does anyone know a cheap(ish) and efficent way to get from Vancouver to Churchill on Hudson Bay?

The only options are by rail and possibly air, but I can't find any flights that go even indirectly too Churchill.

Has anyone done this? What is the best way to get from Vancouver to Churchill? I know this is going to be expensive.

We are thinking of flying/training to Churchill and then driving back over a couple of weeks. Anyone got any tips?

Thanks

I thought I posted a reply however I do not see it. Hopefully you received my reply directly as I'm not sure where it is now

Most likely a small, small outfit out of Winnipeg would fly to Churchill, but the Greyhound bus almost definetly would take you there.

What about via Rankin Inlet? First Air flies there, but maybe youd need a small time company like Kenn Borek to get down to Churchill.

Ive always heard about taking the train from Winnipeg though, I think that is most popular.

Chubbdub... Greyhound is a great option IF there was a road to Churchill.

Check Calmair or Kivalliqair for flights.

Check Viarail for trains.

Check Churchillhotels for...hotels

Best time to watch polar bears is late September - early November.

Be Advised-accommodation is very tight in Churchill-it's a tiny town (we don't use the term village much here in Canada) and if there's no room you'll be appealing to the RCMP for a bed in a jail cell-I wish I was joking but I'm not. :(

In the end you'll end up taking West Air or Jazz to Winnipeg and then VIA Rail north-everyone does.

Hi Folks: a word from a travelling local who lives in the community. The cheapest way to get to Churchill is by train from Wpg.....2 nights/3 days....long but economical.

B&B accomodation (and there are only a few I would stay in!) is pretty much you last resort from Oct1-Nov 18th when the polar bear numbers are at their highest.

We have a B&B that back right onto the tundra with a few dates left that co-incide with train dates.

Rent a car or go for a town tour if you can't get a buggy ride, that is if you don't see a bear in our back yard!
