Hey Guys,
Has anyone ever spent New Years Eve in Oz? I'm there this year and would like some suggestions of where it would be amazing to go party into 2009.
Greatly appreciated.

Wherabouts in Oz were you thinking? I spent NYE 2004 in Sydney and it was awesome to be on the harbour watching the fireworks, but as the previous post says, you may struggle to find accommodation at this late stage - I booked mine for Sydney in the July of that year.

I've spend New Years in Australia twice and in 03/04 I was at Woodford Folk Festival for a couple of days and had such an awesome time there. If you're into camping and festivals, I'd definitely recommend it, because it is a really special way to start the New Year.
Alternatively just like Bex said, spending New Years in Sydney watching the fireworks over the harbour is great, but start looking for accomodation now ;)!

Watched the free Darling Harbour fireworks on Saturday and just turned to me chum and stated..WE ARE STAYING AT YOURS FOR NYE!!!

She didnt say no!

I've been in Australia twice for new years now.

First time was NYE 99 (going into 2000) when I was on a working holiday here. I stayed in a summer youth hostel that the YHA did in the Newtown (Sydney) area - I don't think they do that anymore as they've opened up a number of other hostels in the Sydney area. I watched the fireworks from the Circular Quay area, right outside the MCA building.

Second time was last December (since a year ago I'm now living in Australia). This time I had a place to stay at someones house. I watched the fireworks this time from a dock in Balmain.

I spent last new year new year in oz, we were in sydney, i pre booked accom monthes before we went, we stayed in manly at boardrider backpackers (tip:NEVER stay there its really dirty and the staff were really unfriendly), appart from that it was the best new year iv EVER had, we lined up at the entrance to mrs mquaires point at 8 am, the day flew by, i managed to sneak a bag of goon in lol- we got a place on the grass it was red hot and ate and drank and had good times with loads of travellers, the fireworks from what i remember were great, but it was mainly the build up to the event that made it worth while, like sex really!
