Hi there.

Next year I am planning on setting off round the world. No real plans. Just some money saved and small backpack with tarp sheet for tent and small sleep bag and mat.

My question is regards to food. Obviously I need to eat well while on the road, but what do i eat? I plan on eating fruit purchased along the way, as well as pasta on eveings. cerial bars and nuts during day as well. But what else can I travel with that's the most efficient, light weight, and preferable cheap, to take with me. I would be camping out for 1 week - 2 weeks at a time. (using hostels inbetween) for at least a year.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Dave

If you're going to be away from civilisation for up to 2 weeks at a time you'll need to keep it light and save pack space. You can buy a decent range of dried ready meals that just need water adding, though in my experience they're expensive (£2.50-£5.00) and not particularly tasty, though the quality is improving. The wet meals in vacuum sealed packs are nicer, but heavier and take up a little more space, and cost about the same.

If I'm only off for a few days, I take things like instant flavoured couscous, those noodle soup bowls, anything you just need to add water to. Obviously you'll need a hip flask full of whisky too!
