Hey, im wondering what your opninion is on what i should do. Im 19 from the U.S and i want to travel coast to coast in Australia. Part of me wants to go by myself and the other part would like the company of a friend. Going alone would be an adventure of a lifetime but i dont want to be half way around the world and lonely. What should I do?

I went to the US for 8wks, but had friends there, but even so, i still made more friends while out there. Australians are very friendly, the way i see it is, everyone is in the same position as you in a YHA so they will talk to you. You will have no probs, im sure.

Hi Darren,
Best plan is to head for Perth of Sydney and stick around for a few weeks. You will get to know loads of others in the same situation if you stay in hostels etc. You are almost certain to meet others who you might want to make travel plans with. But be open minded about it and don't worry if they change their mind. Be prepared to travel alone, but enjoy the company if you find it.

I got on an overnight bus from Sydney to Melbourne and sat next to a guy whose home town was 20 miles from mine!
