Travel Forums Central/South America & The Caribbean Teaching English, etc...

I'm planning on spending a year in SA beginning in January 2009. Was originally hoping to just travel but my budget will require that I work to make the trip feasible.

I will be TEFL certified but do not want to commit to any jobs before arriving. I want to make sure I like the place and situation where I will be staying for an extended period of time. Can anyone give me feedback on finding English teaching jobs upon arrival?

Also any recommendations on places to stay for approx. 3 months and teach? Hopefully either in Ecuador, Peru, Chile or Bolivia. Would love to be in a town near the beach with good surfing if possible but I'm flexible if you have better suggestions. My goal is to live in a few different places for a few months each and travel in the interim.

Many thanks...

There are quite a few in Colombia as well....I know that most people are afraid of the place, but I thought it was allr gith when I lived there last year. Cartagena is a beach town, and there is surfing and diving nearby.

I agree. It is much easier to hit the ground running and find the jobs when you get there. Good luck out there.
