It depends how long you stay in one place. Most flats/houses have a minimum tenancy of 3 months. Whereas most hostels let you do it by day.

So if you are thinking of jumping about all over the UK - hostels.

But if you are thinking of having a 'base' like London and doing brief trips out to other parts of the UK then rent a flat.

Also costs wise if you rent you have bills (gas/electricity etc) so I would only do that if you were coming with friends.

There are some flatshares in London for short term sublets (i.e. 6 weeks or so) for a double room sometimes for less than 200 pounds per week. I've seen it in which is where I'm looking for long term flatting.

I suppose it depends on how much it costs per night in a hostel, whether you're staying longer and how much the expenses are (i.e. electricity/water/gas/council tax/tv license etc).

Anyway good luck!

Less than £200 per week? I should blimmin' hope so - I rent a flat in Islington for £250 per week. You can get backpacker accommodation in a hostel in London from about £12 per night if you shop about - this is the best bet if you're only staying in one place for a limited amount of time.

thanks all...
£200 per week i think is kinda expensive...

yeah, thats the thing i cant make up my mind, if rent a room, there are bill worries also security of the house
i saw some pp experienced broke in before, they lost their passport.. money.. and valueable stuff
but one good thing is u can have a room with urself...

but for backpacker hostel, i have been to diff countries in asia and also aus, i never lost anything in dorm
as i assumed that everyone in the room is for travelling, possibility to be theif is lower
and normally the security of the hostel is pretty good enough, i suppose?
also, can meet with pp come around the world...

but thing is, normally hostel charges per night, but rent a room as i kow average at £300-£400 monthly...
en.. just wondering cost wise + location convenience, which one is worth to go for?
