The fate just offered me the opportunity to take two weeks off in the second half of November. I was thinking about flying to Sydney; then taking a local flight to Alice Springs; renting a car there and exploring the parks around there. Is such a plan reasonable, given that November is the beginning of the HOT season?

Thanks a bunch in advance

Hi K,
This is a great opportunity for you. Central Oz is a magnificent place - very different and unique. In fact one of my favourite Aussie outback areas. I love the complementing contrast of colours - the white 'Ghost Gums' and red desert sands against the clear blue sky.

Forget the cities and enjoy the desert areas. You can take some nice day drives to the nearby gorges and maybe even as far as Palm Valley. There are also sites and attractions around 'Alice'.

You must plan to stay out of town for a few days (up to 3) and experience Uluru / Katajuta (Ayres Rock & The Olgas) these monoliths are awe inspiring also visit and explore Kings Canyon. Truly awesome if you don't do anything else, these are a definite on any central Oz itinerary.

I say go for it. This will be a unique experience. The weather will be quite managable, it's a dry heat anyway. Just make sure you have a hat (buy yourself an Aussie 'Akubra') and water on hand when out of town.
