Several years back we decided to forego the traditional holiday at home. We encourage everyone to join us at an affordable location. To save on money, we ask family members to view the trip as the only presents. After all, we really don't need another sweater with reindeer.

So far our holiday trips have been a big hit with the family. We've gone to Tyler Texas, Bowling Green Kentucky and this year the plan is Gulf Shores Alabama.

Has anyone else opted for holiday family travel? And what has your experience been?

Moderator comment: I have moved this thread to General Talk because I think it will receive more answers. I realize the destinations already listed by Carol are all in the US, but it might be interesting to hear from members in other countries as well.

Did this just once--we all went to Nashville--and then took a side trip for a day to Memphis and back. It was great fun for the adults, but not as fun for the kids. If your family is all 16 or older, this is a great trip though.
