I will be in Rio solo for Carnival 2009 and I was looking to meet people that will be there at that time.
I still haven't booked my accomodations, I know it's last minute, but can't decide if I want to go with hostel or hotel.
Any help and advice or even companionship would be appreciated.

You had better do something soon. Most Hotels are booked and I would think most Hostles are booked also.

Hi Elena,

accommodation should be a priority - it is going to be difficult to find things so last minute!! If you are solo I would recommend a backpackers, as there will be other solo travellers in a similar situation...

How much time do you have, and do you speak any portuguese? What kind of experience are you after??

I was solo in Rio for Carnivale in 2005 and can say I had the most wonderful travel experience of my life. I had time on my side, so I booked into a language school for 2 weeks when I first arrived, so that I had enough portuguese to get myself around without getting into trouble.

I then picked up a couple of local street papers, found out where the nearest party was starting (they move through the streets and are hard to find if you miss the start) and started making samba tracks!!!
