It's a company that helps people get started when they just arrive in Australia, by taking care of the (very minor) administrative hassles of getting a WHV, bank account, tax file number, etc and puts you in a hostel with a bunch of other people for a week to do a couple of daytrips and activities like a pubcrawl with. They mostly seem to appeal to people who think they need hand-holding with all of this stuff because they have no idea yet how ridiculously easy it is to do everything yourself in Australia and how easy it is to meet up with people (plus most hostels organize similar activities for free as well). They're charging £450 for it all, which leaves me absolutely amazed, and wishing I'd thought of it first. They must be making money hand over fist. :)

Bunac is another company that does something similar. They charge a fee as well, but I really did find them to be helpful. Just for small things, they did help me with setting up a bank account and my tax ID #, also my cell phone and other things. But one of the biggest helps was just having someone to email whenever I had questions, no matter what it was about. They would always get back with me right away. I think for someone who has never done something like this before, like me, it makes the transition a little easier. I would highly recommend Bunac. Just google them. Hope this helps. Cheers!

I used Bunac also, here's a list of phones to use in Oz - Vodafone, Optus, Telstra, Three and Virgin Mobile

[ Edit: Sorry, no promos please. ]
