Travel Forums North America Mexico - general living

My friend and I are planning on travelling to Mexico in a couple of months - through Mexico City to Cancun (or the other way around), stopping along several places on the way.
We were wondering if anyone can advise us on the living expenses whilst we're out there - food, clothes (fags and booze?!) etc.
Any information would be much appreciated as we have never been to Mexico before !!
Thanks, Wanda.

Well a hostel costs around 140 pesos, and I think a pack of cigs was around 30 pesos.
Sundresses: around 100 pesos, depending on where you get them. I never shopped in normal stores so can't help there.
Resto's vary from 200-600 pesos, again depending on high area or local places.
If you are going to Cancun I strongly recommend to go out to Isla Mujeres - absolute paradise!
There is the old PocNa hostel that is legendary, but there is also a new hostel that opened up; Hi-Na-Ha V.I.P. Hostel and Villas, that is pure luxury for hostellers!!! They offer free pickup at the ferry (they are not in the main area of Isla, as PocNa is, but well worth it!) and has its own beachbar, pool etc etc - luxury!
If you go there, say Hi to Ben the pirate from Jenny! :)

otherwise: skip Playa del Carmen, dont miss Palenque, Coba and TULUM!!!! Cancun can definitely be missed as well.
Yucatan is truly amazing, I wish you the best time when you get over to that side of MX!
