Hi all. I'm thinking about a trip of up to two weeks to Europe in early April. Destination will be influenced by some complicated flight route issues, a desire to try something new......and affordability.

It would be really great if you could throw out a rough estimate of daily expenses for a budget traveller in:

Slovakia (+ Vienna if possible)
Croatia
Poland
Malta

My gf and i are both used to backpacking cheaply so lower-end hostels are fine, but would eat in (cheap) restaurants, want a few beers and would visit cultural sites. The trip could be a fortnight so might involve trains/buses to other cities within the same country. Any help would be wonderful.

And on the subject, any opinions on the best place on that list would be welcomed. I don't know whether this will be a long city break or a mini-backpacking trip around 3-4 cities yet (that clearly influences the tone of the trip).

Thanks very much in advance.

rgds,
Beggsy

Depending on what currency zone you are coming from, Poland can be quite inexpensive. If you are exchanging dollars, 1 Polish Zloty is worth 29 American cents. Poland has some beautiful towns and wild scenery, as well as Baltic coastal resorts. You'll need to learn some Polish as not many are proficient with English.
