Is this realistic?

Travel Forums Australia / New Zealand & The Pacific Is this realistic?

Me and two mates are hiring a campervan for 33 days in June, 2 of us will be driving. My question is do you think we would have enough time to travel from Melbourne to Cairns in 33 days? Or will that be too rushed?

Any help would be great.

The bus service oz experience that i plan to use... suggests a min of 24 days from Melbourne should be spent traveling up the east cost.

Link shows the stops you may want to take.

yeah it's realistic. just plan for the time for driving some of those distances are long. you might end up making more stops in small towns that you didn't expect to stay at just because you might not want to drive so much at night.

I'm not too sure where you are from as that kind of affects it. I'm from the east coast in the states so night time is not really dark here. plus we drive on the right.

so when I was down there I drove from adelaide to melbourne and it took 3 days. because we didn't want to drive at night. Night time there is pitch street lights, no cities off in the distance to light up the horizon. nothing but your headlights. I never experienced darkness like that before. It's freaky! and to top it off you got Kangaroos jumping around like idiots and road trains barreling down on you at 120km an hour....all the while trying to stay focused on staying in the left lane. That's why I say you might find yourself staying at some small town after only driving for a few hours a day.

Hi, thanks for your replies,

Never thought about looking on the bus routes i have checked it out and looks ok. Thanks to you as well Paul about the night driving, I dont think we can drive at night anyway because i am sure i read it in the t's&c's that you cant drive at night due to more wildlife being on the roads.:)

Thanks again just cant wait to get there
