Just booked my Working Holiday Trip to Oz. I leave Jan 25th.

I was wondering will my visa bank card work over in oz? I would assume so but would like a confirmation. If it works should I leave my money in a US account and withdraw when I need the money?

For those of you in the USA, I booked this trip through BUNAC and so far the organization has been right on the money. Once I am in Sydney I will post an update on how the orientation is.

Three months to go!!!

Hi Matt,

I used to do the orientations for BUNAC in Australia and they're good (although not as good as when I used to be doing them of course.... hehehehe lol ).

Seriously though, it's a very solid set up.

ps. yes, you will be able to use any bank card with a maestro or cirrus or visa logo on the back at roughly 99% of all Australian ATMs. You'll probably also get an Australian account set up when/before you go down - that's how it used to be done at least...

I asked my bank the same question, and yes you can use your card abroad but... you will be charged commission on every transaction.
If you're in the UK you can apply for a Nationwide Credit card that charges no commision whilst abroad, and if you set up a direct debit to pay the bill each month you wont incure any interest on the things you've been spending your pennies on, so you wont loose out :)
